You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house.
Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.
I was blessed to be a part of welcoming my sweet nephew Owen into the Church through baptism this weekend! In our family there is nothing we love more than babies and the smell of their little heads after being anointed with the Chrism oil.
Not only are we blessed to be a part of something so wonderful we are also blessed that my father-in-law is the Deacon of our parish. This means Grandpapa (Or PaPa Du as we call him) gets to baptize his grandchildren!
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the holy Spirit.
Welcome to our hearts sweet Owen! We love you!!
Funny thing about photos. When you look at them you only see what the poster/photographer want you to see.
Here you will see what appears to be a stress free pretty uneventful evening of fireworks.
What you won’t see is the 200 plus awful photos that I took of fireworks. It could be my lack of experience but they are hard to photograph!
You also won’t see the fact that my almost 3 year old grabbed the wrong end of a sparkler and and burnt 3 of her tiny little fingers. You won’t be seeing the fact that she screamed most of the remainder of the evening because of sheer exhaustion and those 3 tiny burnt fingers. And this was all before the fireworks even started.
(Dominique, Matthias, Laurence, Ava & Gabby)
You also can’t tell that, just before the above photo was taken, a bird got lost? scared? hurt? and flew right into the hands of my brother-in-law (nice catch Dominique) and then into the back of my van where my husband opened the side door to let him out. Meanwhile, tiny burnt fingers smiles for 3 seconds then resumes screaming. All the while I am still taking terrible photos of fireworks! I did get a few good ones in but unfortunately I didn’t get any of the bird. Wouldn’t that have made this post exciting!?
(blurry but sweet photo of “tiny burnt fingers” all safe in her daddy’s arms)
Either way, life isn’t perfect but we realize, as I did when I got home and looked at the photos, that even the messy moments are filled with sweet moments.
Even what seems like the hard moments are filled with JOY. Because if even just for a moment, we were together. We were happy and we made memories.
Would I do it all again?
Without a doubt.
Maybe just not with the sparklers this time.
I have known Jamie since I was 8 years old and she was 9. Since then life has pulled us in all different directions but never managed to pull us apart. Today I got to be there with her and her family as she introduced her 2nd sweet baby boy to everyone.
I was a MESS. Tears tears and tears. I can’t be sure if it was my own pregnancy hormones or if it was the fact that this person, my best friend, was giving birth to her second baby.
This person who I used to ride bikes with and pack sandwiches and water and seventeen magazines to go sit in the woods or the trees all day during the summer.
This person who dreamed up elaborate tales with me about what our life would be like now. What kind of house we would live in, who we would marry, what kind of car we would drive. All of this based on an eeny meeny miny moe game of M.A.S.H. on a scrap sheet of notebook
Little did we know that those games and dreams would never compare.
Never even come close to being as special and wonderful and amazing and breathtakingly beautiful
As they are right now.
For fun today I have been out and about in my yard and home practicing freelensing. If you don’t know what that is, freelensing is detaching your lens from your camera to create a tilt shift effect or blur. I have been very drawn to these type photos lately. They are simple and beautiful and there is just something so natural and earthy about them.
Most of these are edited with the Pretty Poppy preset that I got from the very person that made me want to try free lensing! You can find her amazing work by clicking Here. She is an amazing photographer and person! She will go far!!
So I got to hang out with Miss. Bella this past weekend. She was such a trooper! She loves the camera and the camera loves her back! She was so easy to guide and after a few initial shots she warmed up and had herself a ball!
As a funny side note, we asked her to not smile for a lot of the shots to accomplish the look that we wanted for her session. It started out really funny because her “not smiling” face was more of a very grumpy face. She got it down pat pretty quickly though and has become one of my favorite little models to date.
Hope you enjoy these! And thanks for visiting the new Blog!
